One of my favorite magazines is Cloth Paper Scissors. In this month's copy there is an article, "The Nature of Art" by Cathy Taylor. It describes how we should begin by taking a stroll through your "...yard, or nearby woods or fields. Bring an old phone book with you as this will serve as a plant press for your treasures..."
My kids and I went on a stroll, this time around the block, and instead of a book for picking and pressing Nature, we brought the camera. We saw moss, flowers, leaf prints in the cement, and mushrooms. It was astounding the beauty all around us. (See my flickr photostream for all the glory.)
Peace comes from patient looking. We stopped on this walk. We smiled at a crazy bug hanging upside down and saw the world from that point of view. We caught the morning sun and preserved it on film and our hearts. I can't believe the inspiration we find from the simplest things, a walk, a flower, a friend, a quote. This necklace is inspired from this photo when one morning we paused and smiled.
Scatter joy!
